U Need a Pita Burger Review – Welland, ON
Pita is right there in the name, but U Need a Pita in Welland also serves up premium burgers, so I stopped in near Prince Charles for an early stop on my Gold Medal Burger quest. The burger scores a 7.1, putting it at #85 out of 140 burgers on my rankings.
My order
A hamburger with lettuce, onion and pickle only, for $6.90. It came in a plastic bag closed with a rubber band, and I liked the confidence. Not a lot of effort on the wrapping, so hopefully the effort went into the burger.
A double surprise
I ordered a single burger, but what came out was a double. Two thin patties, minced onion, lettuce and a good amount of pickles on a glistening bun. A different approach, and I guess that's just how they do it here.
First bite
One bite, everybody knows the rules. I'd watched them cook the thin patties on a flat-top, and the meat had really, really good flavour. The bun was soft and toasted, the lettuce tasted fresh, and they used red onions, which I like. They weren't scared on the pickles, either.
The breakdown
- Bun: Soft, toasted and glistening.
- Patties: Two thin flat-top patties with great flavour.
- Toppings: Fresh lettuce, minced red onion and lots of pickles.
- Value: $6.90 for a double, a great deal.
I kept going back for more bites, and the flavour of the meat stayed the highlight every time. Two thin patties cooked on the flat-top means plenty of seared surface, and the fresh lettuce, red onion and generous pickles kept every bite balanced.
My verdict
I don't want to set the bar too high this early in the quest, but this is a really good burger. U Need a Pita earns a 7.1, and I'd come back here any time to grab another one.
