Iggy's Pub & Grub Burger Review – Fonthill, ON
Iggy's Pub & Grub sits on Highway 20 in Fonthill, right across from McDonald's, and it has a unique spot in my history: it was the first place ever to say no to my Must See Monday feature. I came back anyway to give its burger a fair review, and it scores a 6.2, good for #107 out of 140 burgers on my Gold Medal Burger rankings.
My order
I went in wanting them to have a good burger. I ordered the usual, lettuce, onion and pickle only, and I liked that it was ready in about ten minutes. I did have to order fries with it, which helped push the total to $17.25. The box was heavy when I picked it up, mostly thanks to the fries.
No hard feelings
I went in with an open mind. A restaurant turning down a feature is its call, and the Gold Medal Burger quest scores every burger on the same one-bite rule no matter what. Iggy's got the same treatment as anyone else.
What's inside
The fries looked good and so did the bun. On the burger were shredded lettuce, thick slices of red onion and pickles.
First bite
One bite, everybody knows the rules. I noticed something right away: there was no cheese on it, but it almost tasted like there was. My guess is they buttered up the bun. The red onion was potent, but I liked it.
- Bun: Toasted and buttered, and the best part of the burger.
- Patty: A single, and on the dry side.
- Onion: Thick red onion slices with real bite.
- Fries: Excellent.
- Value: $17.25 with fries, on the high end for the quest.
My verdict
My notes were short: single burger, dry burger, saved by the toasted bun. The patty on its own doesn't do much, but the buttered bun and that sharp red onion carry it further than you'd expect. The fries were excellent and the burger was okay. More than anything, the bun is what pulls it up to a 6.2. Iggy's, you didn't want a Must See Monday, but you still got a burger review.
