The Eager Beaver Burger Review – Niagara Falls, ON
It might be the most Canadian name on the entire quest. The Eager Beaver Eatery and Sports Bar in Niagara Falls served me a burger unlike any other I've had. It scores an 8.2, good for #40 out of 140 on my Gold Medal Burger rankings.
Two giant TVs
The sign out front promotes a 120 inch TV. Inside there are actually two of them. Pretty wild, and a great spot to catch a game. A few people in the Falls had told me this was the place to get a burger, and that the meat was fresh.
My order
Lettuce, onion and pickle only, for $10.17. It came in a half styrofoam container. It's a little guy: a lightly toasted bun with lettuce, paper thin red onion and one piece of pickle. A pocket burger. There were some greens in there too, so maybe a spinach pocket burger.
First bite
One bite, everybody knows the rules, and my first thought was that this is really different. The patty was incredibly soft, like cotton candy. I took a bite and it practically dissolved. You could throw this at my head at 100 miles an hour and I'd barely feel it. Poof.
There was also a flavour I couldn't pin down. It almost tasted like mustard was mixed into the meat. It's like they whipped it, like whipped cream, so soft and fluffy with flavours I couldn't identify. I like it, and I'm going to have to come back and ask what's in it.
The breakdown
- Bun: Fresh and lightly toasted.
- Patty: Homemade, juicy and impossibly soft, with a mustard-like flavour.
- Toppings: Light on pickle and lettuce. The onion was paper thin and could have been heavier.
- Size: Small, but I like the size.
- Value: $10.17 for a smaller burger.
My verdict
This might not be the best burger on the quest, but it's one of the most unique. A craft burger. The fluffy, mysterious patty earns The Eager Beaver an 8.2. I also noticed pizza pictures with cup pepperoni on the walls, and I want to come back and try more of the menu.
