Dunnville isn't technically Niagara, but I wasn't about to let that stop me. Small Dimensions, a fish and chips shop near the corner of Chestnut and Queen in Dunnville, makes its own hamburger patties, so it was fair game on the Gold Medal Burger quest. It scores an 8.1, good for #48 out of 140 burgers on my rankings.
It was a beautiful day, sun shining, a little breeze, and the burgers had been good to me all day long. I felt great.
My order
The Gold Medal Burger, lettuce, onion and pickle only, came to $6.89. The guy behind the counter gave me a hard time the second I walked in, and I loved him for it.
What was on it
A lightly toasted bun, one piece of lettuce, two slices of pickle and a little minced onion on the bottom. The burger was hot and the onions smelled great.
First bite
One bite, everybody knows the rules. Soft bun, really soft, and a completely different kind of burger from anything else on the quest. The meat was tender and nicely soft, with a flavour I couldn't quite place. It almost made me want to dip it in soy sauce. You barely need teeth for this one.
My rundown

- Patty: Homemade, tender and with an unusual flavour that left me a little confused.
- Toppings: One piece of lettuce, two good pickle slices and minced onion.
- Value: $6.89 for a homemade burger.
Dancing the line
I went back and forth on this one, dancing between a 7.9 and an 8.1. The meat threw me off a bit, but the burger was good and the guy behind the counter showed me a good time. In the end, it's an 8.1.
Dunnville counts
Being just outside Niagara doesn't keep a place off my quest. Good burgers are good burgers, and Dunnville is completely included. A fish and chips shop that makes its own patties is exactly the kind of place this quest is built to find.
My verdict
Small Dimensions is serving up good burgers in Dunnville, right by the town's burger mural. If you find yourself heading that way and you want a burger, this one is worth the stop.
