On the Twenty Restaurant Burger Review – Jordan Station, ON
Robyn found this one. On the Twenty Restaurant in Jordan Village was a first for me in every sense: first time on the quest, first time in Jordan Village in my life, and the first dine-in Gold Medal Burger, because they don't do takeout. The burger scored a 7.3, #77 out of 140 burgers on my rankings.
My order
Robyn called ahead, and we ordered on the patio: lettuce, onion and pickle only, the Gold Medal Burger international standard, so you can compare every burger fairly. Another first came with the bill. At $22.60, this was the most expensive burger on the quest at the time, edging out the previous record holder by one whopping penny.
It arrived on a proper plate with house-made pickles, what looked like fried onion crisps, lettuce and a toasted bun, possibly brioche. The place was so classy I half expected someone to tell me to put my sleeves on.
First bite
One bite, everybody knows the rules. Good flavour right away, but a little overcooked. The second bite was better, and the pickles were the highlight: a little sour, but not too sour. I give the kitchen a lot of credit for making their own.
Plate breakdown
- Bun: Toasted, possibly brioche.
- Patty: Around five ounces by my guess, with good flavour but overcooked.
- Pickles: House made and excellent.
- Onions: Fried onion crisps, and nice.
- Ratio: Pretty much perfect.
- Value: $22.60, the priciest burger on the quest at the time.
Service with a smile
Our server was super nice. Robyn and I asked for separate bills and to pay ahead of time, something she said nobody had ever asked for, and she took care of everything. The rest of the menu looked great, and I want to go back to try it.
My verdict
Lots of potential. A little less time on the grill and this burger would have had a lot more happenings. As it is, On the Twenty earns a 7.3. Afterward, Robyn and I took a walk around Jordan Village, and with all its little shops it felt almost European. If you've never been, it's worth the trip.
