My first ever visit to the Jordan House Tavern & Lodging came on a busy, sunny day in Jordan, with a wedding going on and lots of happy people around. The staff were super friendly, and the Gold Medal Burger scored a 7.9, #54 out of 140 on my rankings.

My order

Lettuce, onion and pickle only, the international Gold Medal Burger standard, so I'm comparing gold medal burgers to gold medal burgers everywhere I go. It cost $13.56, a lot cheaper than the last burger I had in Jordan. The waitress told me it's a straight beef, homemade patty.

What arrived

A homemade patty with shredded lettuce, thinly sliced red onion and a pickle spear, all on a brioche bun. It smelled real good.

First bite

One bite, everybody knows the rules. A good first bite and a delicious patty. Hot, fresh out of the kitchen, juicy and cooked well. The shredded lettuce was very nice, and if you're going to do red onion, thinly sliced is the way to do it.

The curse of the pickle spear

The spear is what held it back. I call it the curse of the pickle spear. Evenly distributed pickle slices make a burger, and I can't understand why more places don't slice them. It wasn't a bad pickle, just the wrong shape.

  • Bun: Brioche, lightly toasted.
  • Patty: Straight beef, homemade, juicy and fresh off the grill.
  • Toppings: Shredded lettuce and thin red onion were excellent. The pickle spear was not.
  • Value: $13.56 is a good price for Jordan.

A day in Jordan

Robyn and I have been spending more time in Jordan lately, and the Jordan House fits right in. Good things were happening inside, a wedding was underway and the sun was shining. The setting made the burger even more enjoyable.

My verdict

A very good 7.9 burger, teetering right on the line. If the Jordan House sliced their pickles, and especially if they used a homemade pickle, this burger would easily be in the eights. It's a great place on a sunny day, and I want to check out more spots in Jordan.
