Julia's Bistro and Catering Burger Review – Dunnville, ON
I stepped outside Niagara for this Gold Medal Burger stop, heading to Julia's Bistro and Catering at the corner of Broad Street East and Niagara Street in Dunnville. It was a return visit: Julia's was the setting for one of the very first episodes of Must See Mondays. The burger earns an 8.8, good for #13 out of 140 burgers on my rankings.
Old friends
Before the review, I caught up with Julia and Paul, the owners. It's hard not to give them bonus marks because I love these people. They're super nice, and I remember having a great time filming Must See Mondays there. In the end, they don't need bonus marks, because they make a good burger.
My order
As always, a hamburger with lettuce, onion and pickle only. The price was $13.23. The first thing I noticed was the weight. I'm guessing at least a half pounder.
Under the hood
Lifting the bun revealed a homemade patty, horizontally sliced pickles, red onion, more pickles and lettuce, all on a toasted bun that was glistening. It was dripping with juice before I took a bite.
First bite
One bite, everybody knows the rules. I couldn't believe I had to leave Niagara to find a burger this good. It was like jumping into a Ferrari and zooming past all the other burgers. I remembered the burger being good from my last visit, but not this good.
What stood out
- Bun: Toasted with a glisten that caught my eye right away.
- Patty: Homemade, huge and cooked perfectly, with juice running off it.
- Toppings: Plenty of horizontally sliced pickles, red onion and lettuce.
- Value: $13.23 for a half pound homemade burger is a good deal.
My verdict
When I filmed this one, early in the quest, Julia's took over as the best burger I'd found so far. It's juicy, perfectly cooked and big enough to share, though I didn't. I gave it an 8.8. If you're in Dunnville, or willing to make the drive from Niagara, stop in at Julia's.
