Grumpy Gramma's Burger Review – Welland, ON
Grumpy Gramma's is a food truck in the Canadian Tire parking lot in Welland, and I almost had to dock marks for false advertising. The woman running it was not grumpy, and there's no way I believe she's a grandma. The burger scored a 7.3, #72 out of 140 burgers on my rankings.
Quick service
This burger was done fast. Robyn ducked into Canadian Tire for about two seconds, and by the time she came back it was ready, so we had to hustle to get the review going.
My order
Lettuce, onion and pickle only, for $7.35. That's a really good price. The burger had a homemade patty, onions, two slices of pickle and iceberg lettuce on a big bun. I gave it a squish to get it down to size.
First bite
One bite, everybody knows the rules, and that was a lot of bun. On the first bite I was barely clipping the burger. It was dripping, but I think that was the pickle. I thought I spotted mustard seed in the patty, and it was seasoned well and cooked well. A fantastic patty and a really good burger.
What stood out
- Bun: Too big. The ratio was off with lots of bun.
- Patty: Homemade, well seasoned and cooked well. The star of the show.
- Toppings: Nice distribution of pickle and good onions.
- Service: Fast, with a friendly cook having fun in the truck.
- Value: $7.35, great for a homemade burger.
You could tell the cook was having fun back there, and the service matched the food. A truck in a parking lot is not where most people expect a homemade patty this good, and that's what makes this stop worth knowing about.
My verdict
With the cook right behind me and able to hear everything, I still kept it honest: great patty, too much bun, so I took a little off for the ratio. Grumpy Gramma's lands at 7.3. If you're heading to Canadian Tire hungry, it's an easy decision. Grab a burger for seven bucks and change, then go get your snow tires put on.
