Delirious Burger Co Burger Review – Hamilton, ON
I was back in Hamilton for the Gold Medal Burger quest, standing in the middle of an oddly empty Locke Street that felt more like a movie set than a city. My stop was Delirious Burger Co at 197 Locke Street, and the smash burger scores a 7.1, landing at #83 out of 140 burgers.
My order
A hamburger with lettuce, onion and pickle only, and the price was the first surprise. People say Hamilton is expensive, but this one came to just $6.09, cheaper than most burgers I've had back in Niagara. The staff told me how they do it: ground beef smashed onto the grill and seasoned. Simple.
A detour on the way
The burger had to wait for me, and not by choice. On the way over, Robyn and I got pulled over by Hamilton police after driving through a closed lane, with no other way out of a parking lot. The officers were very nice, let us go with no ticket, and even gave us a burger recommendation for a future stop. That doesn't happen every day on the quest, but it did mean the burger sat for a while before I got to it.
That's clearly not the restaurant's fault. I saw that they keep finished burgers in a warmer right under the grill, which is a good system. But I can't give them points for juiciness I didn't get.
First bite on Locke Street
One bite, everybody knows the rules. It was still hot, it smelled good and it felt good. It wasn't juicy, but the flavour was there, and for the price, this is a really good burger. I almost feel bad, because I think it would have been even better if we'd shown up on time. Sorry we're late!
The breakdown
- Bun: Toasted.
- Patty: A seasoned smash burger with good flavour, though not juicy after the wait.
- Toppings: Red onions, horizontal pickles and a single leaf of lettuce, a little light.
- Packaging: A paper bag with a shiny lining, which I liked.
- Value: Excellent for a smash burger at this price.
My verdict
Delirious Burger Co earns a 7.1, and there's a good chance it scores higher when the burger goes straight from the warmer to my hands. As it stands, it's a seasoned, satisfying smash burger at a price that's hard to find anywhere. If you're walking up Locke Street, this one is worth a stop.
