All right, Robyn and I headed back out to Ridgeway on the quest to find the best Gold Medal Burger in the entire world, and this time we stopped at 335 On The Ridge on Ridge Road. It ended the way no burger fan wants a visit to end: a DQ. No score, no ranking, just another disqualification on the list.

A familiar name in Ridgeway

335 On The Ridge is connected to The Kitchen, which sits right around the corner. From what they told me inside, The Kitchen handles the take-out side and 335 is the dine-in side. Fun fact: The Kitchen, back when it was across the road, was the setting for one of the very first Must See Monday videos, even though I was only talking in it.

The order and the price

Robyn ordered the Gold Medal Burger the same way she has for more than a hundred reviews: a hamburger with lettuce, onion and pickle only, no side. The bill came to $19.21, a couple of bucks above what I usually pay.

The packaging got off to a good start. It came in a brown paper bag stamped with their branding, wrapped like something from a butcher shop, sticker and all. I felt like I had just picked up a package of meat, and I have to give them props for the presentation. It smelled good too.

What went wrong

Then the wrapper came off. Ridgeway, you're cute, you're quaint, you're beautiful, but you reminded me of my teenage years growing up in Wainfleet: not listening. The burger did not match the order, and on this quest that means one thing.

  • Price: $19.21, on the higher side for the quest.
  • Packaging: Brown paper, butcher shop style, with a branded sticker. A highlight.
  • Order: Not made as a Gold Medal Burger, so no bite and no score.
  • Atmosphere: A cool space inside and a nice fenced patio out back.

My verdict

This one stung, because I was excited about it. The guy working inside was really nice, the place looked great and that back patio is a sweet spot to hang out. But one bite, everybody knows the rules, and the burger has to come the way it was ordered. 335 On The Ridge goes down as a DQ on my Gold Medal Burger quest. Maybe a redemption visit is in its future.
