Fat Louie's American Style Pizzeria Burger Review – St. Catharines, ON
I had never heard of Fat Louie's American Style Pizzeria at 384 Linwell Road in St. Catharines, and I loved it the moment I walked in. Orange everywhere, flat screen TVs around the entire room and a busy lot with not a parking spot left out front. The burger scores a 7.8, #58 out of 140 on my Gold Medal Burger rankings.
My order
Lettuce, onion and pickle only, for $13.55. A sign inside promises the only fat guy in town. Not today, Louie. Not today. The menu is loaded with pub food, specialty fries, burgers, pizzas and daily specials, including a six dollar pound of wings, which I could hardly believe.
Holy cow
I opened the box and couldn't get over the size of the patty. They are not shy here. A sesame seed bun, lightly toasted with butter, and a patty that almost looked steamed.
First bite
Juicy. I wasn't sure how they cooked it, but after a few bites I was convinced: it's homemade. If it wasn't made that day, it wasn't made long before. It tasted fresh, and I liked the pickle.
- Bun: Sesame seed, lightly toasted, buttered for sure.
- Patty: Huge, homemade, juicy and fresh tasting.
- Toppings: Lettuce, onion and a pickle I liked.
- Value: $13.55 for a very big burger is good value.
Atmosphere
To me, Fat Louie's is what a bar should feel like: a TV in every square inch, wherever you look. I was hoping the burger would be good because I want to come back for everything else on the menu, and it was.
Finding a seat
The place was so busy that Robyn and I grabbed the last parking spot out back. I guess nobody in St. Catharines believes in carpooling. We found a table and got to work on a burger that took some effort to finish.
My verdict
A good burger, a 7.8, in a fun room with great prices. I don't know who Fat Louie is, but next time I want to call ahead and meet him, so we can be the only two fat guys in town.
