The Feathery Pub Burger Review – St. Catharines, ON
The Feathery Pub sits on Vansickle Road in St. Catharines, right by the Walmart, and this was my first time ever stopping in. The people inside were friendly and having a good time, and the burger scores a 6.2, good for #108 out of 140 burgers on my Gold Medal Burger rankings.
My order
A Gold Medal Burger with lettuce, onion and pickle only came to $17.52. That's a little on the steep side. It came in a black takeout package that felt a bit light in the hand, and there were no sides, which was fine by me.
While I waited, I got talking with some of the regulars, who turned out to know Wainfleet. Super nice people. I could have talked with them forever.
Opening it up
The bun looked fantastic and was toasted. On top of the patty sat a single slice of red onion, some lettuce and a pickle I can only describe as huge. The patty was another story. I'd put the chances of it being homemade at zero percent. It was a pre-made "backyard" patty.
First bite
The burger was hot, and for a backyard patty, it's not bad at all. It didn't taste old. Somebody once asked me if I know how many times I say "not bad" in a review, and here I was saying it again. The difference here is that everything around the patty is good.
- Bun: The star. Toasted, soft and with some real substance to it.
- Patty: A pre-made backyard patty, served hot and fresh.
- Pickle: One big pickle, and a really good one.
- Onion and lettuce: A slice of red onion and nice lettuce.
- Value: $17.52 is a lot for a burger built around a backyard patty.
The 4.20 joke
With the pub at 420 Vansickle, I had to tease a 4.2 score. Kidding! For a backyard burger, this one is pretty legit.
My verdict
A 6.2 for the Feathery Pub. I liked everything going on around the patty: the bun, the lettuce, the onion and that big pickle. My takeaway is simple. If they put a homemade patty in this burger, it would be legit.
