A lot of people had been talking about Blind Pig Kitchen & Bar on Lundy's Lane in Niagara Falls, and when I showed up it was packed and full of happenings. The burger scored a 7.3, #75 out of 140 burgers on my rankings.

What the buzz is about

I could see why people were talking. The place was busy from the moment we got there, with tons of people inside. You don't have to be blind to eat here, and at one point I even slipped and called it the Flying Pig.

My order

They quoted us 15 minutes, but the burger was ready early. The price was $12.95, minus a buck for skipping the side, and it came to $13.50 with tax. As always: lettuce, onion and pickle only.

The burger came with a toasted bun, a double patty, romaine lettuce and a pickle spear, some assembly required. Robyn suggested going open faced to get a look, and I called it right away: the pickle distribution was going to be a little funky.

First bite

One bite, everybody knows the rules. It was a little sloppy and hard to handle, but the meat was good. A little light on seasoning, not dry, but not a juicy burger either. Some juice was coming through, and I think that was from the pickle spear. My assembly skills aren't what they were back when I worked at McDonald's.

The pickle itself was good. I just wish they'd cut it up for even distribution.

The rundown

  • Bun: Toasted and fine.
  • Patty: Double patty, good meat, light on seasoning.
  • Toppings: The romaine was good, but the pickle spear made distribution uneven.
  • Value: $13.50.

I even stopped to inspect the patties mid review and realized I'd been crushing one patty while the other barely got touched. Proof that the open-faced assembly didn't do this burger any favours.

My verdict

A pretty good burger with nothing wrong with it, but it didn't knock my socks off. Blind Pig earns a 7.3. I did wonder whether the Harvey's just down Lundy's Lane might be cheaper and maybe even better, but that's a review for another day.
