How a Burger Review Inspired The Rex Hotel's New Italian Burger
Sometimes a burger review leads to something new on the menu. That's what happened after I reviewed the Gold Medal Burger at The Rex Hotel on King Street in Welland.
The ciabatta surprise
During the review, I ran into something I had never seen on the quest: an Italian-style ciabatta bun on my Gold Medal Burger. It caught me off guard, though in hindsight it shouldn't have. The Rex Hotel is known for its Italian food, from pizza and pasta to gnocchi, and the bread fit right in. The burger scored well, and in the video I made a point of how surprised I was by that bun.
The Rex responds
Shortly after the review went up on Facebook, The Rex Hotel posted its own reaction on its fan page: a photo of a brand new burger with a caption inviting people to come in and try their new Italian Burger, inspired by my visit.
Here's what's on it:
- A homemade burger patty
- Salami
- Capicola
- Roasted red peppers, one of my favorites
- Melted provolone cheese
I'll admit it: if I weren't a Gold Medal Burger addict, that burger would be calling my name.
A post that took off
I have to give The Rex credit for what came next. Their post picked up 85 likes and reactions, 26 comments and 19 shares. It exploded. To me, this is the best way for a restaurant to respond to a review: take something positive and make it even better on your own social media.
The quest is about featuring local businesses, and I love seeing a restaurant take a review to the next level. I can't wait to come back to The Rex for more of their food, and if you try the Italian Burger, let me know how it is.
