Niko's Place Burger Review – Niagara Falls, ON
Last time I was in Niagara Falls, people kept telling me to try Niko's. I had driven past the little spot at Jepson and Victoria countless times without ever noticing it. Now I know. Niko's Place scores a 7.9, #51 out of 140 burgers on my Gold Medal Burger quest, and at $5 it's one of the best values on the list.
My order
I was inside shooting the breeze with the guys, had a few good laughs, and walked out with a burger for $5.00 on the button. Niko's offers two, four, six and eight ounce sizes, and I went with the four ounce. Lettuce, onion and pickle only, on a homemade patty they make right there.
An audience
For the first time on the quest, I had a little gallery of onlookers watching me film. People were everywhere, hanging out and ordering.
First bite
One bite, everybody knows the rules. A good burger. Hot, with good seasoning, and while it wasn't juicy, it was completely moist. I almost wished I had gone up a size.
- Bun: Sesame seed, looking lightly toasted.
- Patty: Homemade four ounce, hot, moist and well seasoned.
- Toppings: Lettuce, onion and pickle.
- Value: $5.00. Five dollar, make you holla.
Prices that make you look twice
The menu pricing amazed me, with each step up in size costing only about an extra dollar. This burger was at least twice as good as another five dollar burger I had on the quest.
Easy to miss
Niko's is close to Country Fresh Donuts, and it's the kind of small spot you can drive by a hundred times without noticing. Don't. The crowd hanging out front tells you everything about how popular it is with locals. A friendly local at Garrisons Grill was one of the people who pointed me here.
My verdict
A 7.9 at Niko's Place. A good, hot, homemade burger for five bucks, and the staff were already telling me to try a hot dog on the way out. I'll be back for more. If you're near Jepson and Victoria, it's an easy call.
