Boogie's Burger Review – Calgary, AB
My Gold Medal Burger quest headed west for the Calgary leg, and the first stop was Boogie's Burgers on Edmonton Trail. A friend recommended it, and it delivered a lot of burger for very little money. Boogie's scored a 7.6, #65 out of 140 burgers on my rankings.
My order
Lettuce, onion and pickle only, same as everywhere. The price was just $6.83, and I was pumped before I even opened the bag. The packaging is simple: a stamp on a paper bag with napkins in the bottom. Keeping it cost effective, I like their style. The girl at the counter was friendly, and the place has some character, including a wall covered in money.
I asked ahead of time about the patties. They're not made in house, but they're ordered in fresh, not frozen.
A lot of burger
This was a massive burger for the price. Toasted sesame seed bun, horizontally sliced ruffled pickles, shredded lettuce and a big patty with some nice flame on it. One bite, everybody knows the rules, and my first reaction was simple: this is a good burger.
The patty was seasoned well and the fresh onions came in a good amount. I made one comparison, and I don't mean it as a knock: the patty reminded me of a Wendy's patty, only better.
Bun, patty and toppings
- Bun: A good toasted sesame seed bun, just a little too big for the patty.
- Patty: Big, flame-kissed and well seasoned, fresh not frozen.
- Pickles: Ruffled and juicy, which helped balance out the ratio.
- Onions: Fresh, and a good amount of them.
- Value: $6.83 for a burger this size is hard to beat.
My verdict
The bun to burger ratio was a little off, something I've run into on a few recent stops, and I think a slightly smaller bun could have pushed this one into the eights. As it stands, Boogie's gets a 7.6. It's a good, solid burger at a great price, and a strong start to the Calgary leg of the quest. I even passed the rest to my friend to help finish it, because we had more burgers to get to that day.
